Welcome
UCCSA Welcomes You
Welcome to the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa website. The United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) was founded in 1967, however, its origins may be traced back over 200 years to the arrival of the London Missionary Society’s first personnel on the subcontinent. Today, it has over a million members spread amongst 400 local churches in five countries: Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, with the prospects of growth as the 41st Assembly of the UCCSA approved a process of unity with the Evangelical Congregational Church in Angola (IECCA) as well as extending her mission to Malawi which is a new frontier.

POLITY & GOVERNANCE
The UCCSA, like all Congregational churches worldwide, governs itself on the basis that each local church is a ‘gathered’ community of Christian believers who’s only credal statement is the biblical affirmation: “Jesus is Lord.” Each local church preserves the authority to govern itself in all things concerning its life and mission. However, it is interdependent on all other churches in the denomination, as they voluntarily pool resources and work together in what they cannot do apart. The liberty of each local congregation does not imply that the UCCSA is a loose grouping of separatist churches, because Congregationalism is firmly based on the biblical principle of covenant – individual members covenant, as the local church, to “walk together according to God’s ways,” and each church exists in covenant relationship with other member churches, “the Holy Spirit helping us.”
The uccsa is committed to
- Continuously proclaim the Lordship and the love of Christ Jesus in Church and Society
- Be a welcoming embracing, caring and inclusive church, never to discriminate, ignore, reject or undermine any person or group
- Pursue the fullness of life given by Christ Jesus
- To fight all forms of corruption within the Church and Society
- Reread the Bible in light of our experience and mission
- Journeying together in the search for transformation of the systems that deny justice, equality and human rights.
- Become what God wants us to be
